(Jaune Strife AU) Uncle Vincent decided to stop by and he terrifies everyone. Everyone except the Arcs, even little Adrian is chill with the half-vampire adopted relative. Terra just thinks her in-laws are weird like that.
"Sorry I'm late." Jaune huffed as he passed through the doors.
"About time you got here, kid." Uncle Barret chuckled. "Any later, and he would have grown up on ya!"
"Oh, be nice!" Tifa slugged Barret in the arm. "Jaune, we're glad you made it."
"Yeah!" Aunt Yuffie nodded. "Besides, it's not like the little guy was going anywhere."
"Especially not with how tall, dark, and creepy is holding him." Cid gruffed.
Jaune looked to where his sister and her wife sat at a booth, with his Uncle Vincent sitting between them. In his arms lay a chubby baby who seemed to be watching the pale male with interest.
"Coochie-coo." Uncle Vincent cooed, wiggling his clawed finger at the babe.
"Be careful, Uncle Vincent." Saphron worried.
"He's fine, Saph." Terra waved. "I'm sure your uncle know how to hold a baby."
"When will it be my turn?" Red XIII asked from the other side of the table.
"Uh, well..." Terra scratched her cheek, unsure of how to answer the question.
"So, how's it feel to a grandpa, Cloud?" Uncle Reeves asked, holding a stuffed toy in his arms.
"Not bad." Cloud replied. "Never really thought I'd make it this far, though, having my own kids with their own kids."
Jaune walked up to the table, where his sister and sister-in-law looked to him. He smiled and waved at them, and they all gasped at what happened. The baby reached out with his tiny hands and waved back.
"H-Hi there, uh..." Jaune continued to wave as his face flushed. "What's his name?"
"Adrian." Tifa answered behind her son. "Adrian Cotta-Arc-Strife."
"Kind of a mouthful." Jaune chuckled. "I'll just call him Adrian."
"Well, that is his name." Terra giggled.
Adrian giggled, too, and Jaune felt his heart melt.

Santa Fe's sun dipped low on the horizon, casting golden hues over the terra cote streets. You, adorned in a vibrant red dress that swayed with each sway of your hip, glided through the lively crowd. Your h/c hair framed an innocent smile that could charm even the sternest of faces, a charming and strikingly beautiful young woman whose smile hid secrets, a façade concealing the nimble fingers of a pickpocket.
The people of Santa Fe were oblivious to the danger that walked among them. No one suspected a pretty lady like yourself with a twinkle in your eyes, adorned in jewelry, to be a master of the unsavory art, pickpocketing.
Your charm, your grace that rivaled even the most high status ladies in society was your greatest weapon. Your targets were carefully chosen, and you would distract them with a captivating smile, witty banter, flirtatious charm, and the subtle dance of your nimble fingers.
One fateful day, the town buzzed, a cloud of dust announced the arrival of a lone cowboy. He had an air of mystery about him that drew your attention, a charm that rivaled your own. His rugged features were hidden beneath the brim of his worn hat, his piercing blue eyes surveyed the vibrant scene, taking in the sights and sounds of Santa Fe with a cool confidence.
Unable to resist the lure of a new challenge, you sauntered over to him with a coy smile, your hips swaying subtly with each step. "Well, hello there, stranger. Santa Fe welcomes you," you greeted him, your voice as sweet as honey.
Billy, drawn in by your beauty and charisma, reciprocated with a smile that revealed his dimples, tipping his hat. "Thank you, ma'am. Quite a lively place you got 'ere," his gaze locks on you. "Santa Fe is quite something, I agree." You softly chuckle, your eyes scanning him.
"What brings you here," You tilt your head, letting charm take center change. One corner of his lip tips up, his eyes drifting to the side for a fleeting moment as you inch closer to him.
You engage in conversation as Billy responds with equal enthusiasm. As you spoke, your fingers moved with practiced precision, exploring the edges of his pockets. The marketplace provided the perfect cover, its chaotic ambiance camouflaging your subtle movements.
You reveled in the thrill of the heist, confident that your charm would keep him blissfully unaware. Billy, though new to Santa Fe, was no stranger to the art of survival. His instincts kicked in as he felt the subtle graze of your fingers, and with a swift motion, grabbed your delicate wrist with a slight smirk.
Surprise flashed across your features, but you quickly composed yourself, turning the encounter into a playful interaction. "Well now, what do we have 'ere?" Billy's voice was low and velvety as he spoke. "A charming lady with a mischievous side."
You chuckled, feigning innocence. "Oh, you caught me. I must admit, you're quite perceptive, cowboy. Maybe I just couldn't resist the allure of a handsome cowboy like yourself," Billy's gaze lingered on you, a spark of amusement in his eyes.
Billy chuckled, releasing your wrist. "Well, darlin' you've got nerve I'll give you that, most folks 'round here just tip their hats and move on," You tilt your head coyly to the side at his words.
"I'm not like most folks, and you're not like most cowboys," you arch and eyebrow at him. "Tell me, darlin', what would drive a lady like you to such daring efforts?"
With a mischievous glint in your eyes, you responded, "Survival, perhaps," You shrug, Billy's laugh resonated through the air, a deep and hearty sound.
"Well, you've certainly made my day more interesting, ma'am. But I reckon you should find a more honest way to make a living," A challenge flickered between you and the handsome outlaw, an unspoken understanding that there was more to both of you than met the eye.
"They say there are two paths that a women can take; marry, or whore yourself," You began, looking around before you fold your arms. "Tried whoring," Billy's lips part, "but that only made me realise my self-worth more," Your eyes fall down onto the grown at your feet where you kick a rock.
"Oh I know you're worth more than that, sweetheart." Billy steps closer to you, taking your chin in between his fingers which catches you off guard. The air crackled with a tension that transcended mere flirtation. The dance between pickpocket and cowboy had just begun.
"Seems you've got a talent for lightening a man's pockets," Billy remarked, a sly grin tugging at the corners of his mouth as you mirror him. You raised an eyebrow, "it's just a little something I picked up along the way. Keeps life interesting, wouldn't you say?"
Billy leaned against a wooden post, his gaze never leaving yours. "Interesting is one way to put it," he swallows, his eyes watching a family walk past, "most folks call it risky business, though," you lock eyes with him once again.
"Oh, but where's the fun without a bit of risk?" you replied, a playful glint in your eyes. "Besides, I've got a knack for it." Billy chuckled, shaking his head, "Well, ma'am, you've certainly added a twist to my day. Never thought I'd meet a pickpocket so......" he trails off, his eyes swept over you, a heat evident in the way his eyes drank your details, from head to toe before wetting his lips, "charming."
You stepped closer, the little space between you filled with an electric energy. "And I never though I'd such a handsome cowboy with keen instincts. Caught me fair and square." Billy's gaze softened, a hint of curiosity in his eyes.
"So, what's a charming lady like you doing in a place like this? There's gotta be more to the story." You sighed, as if revealing a secret. "Life's not always as pretty as it seems. Sometimes, a girl's gotta do what she can to get by."
His expression grew more serious, a subtle understanding passing between you. "We've all go out ways of surviving in this world." He sharply inhales, his hands resting on his hips. "Would you like somethin' to drink, ma'am?" He questions you with a subtle smirk on his lips as you bite your lip lightly, "Though you'd never ask," Billy cracks a smile.

You pulled your coat closer around you as a cold breeze flew past you. It was eerily quiet in Jump City. Your ears could only pick up on crickets and occasional cars in the distance. You shivered involuntarily, feeling goosebumps rise on your neck as you continued your trek down the sidewalk. The street lamps were bright against the dark sky above, and there wasn’t a cloud in sight, which was a bit odd. Dropping your gaze from the sky, you lightly surveyed the dark buildings around you. Nothing seemed out of place, yet you couldn’t shake the feeling of uneasiness.
"All alone, are we?" You heard a deep voice, and you swiftly turned, your eyes flickering rapidly around you, but didn’t see anyone. You took another few steps before you heard the voice again, "Wandering about without your little friends?" You knew that voice, another shiver ran down your spine as you whipped around once more; the voice seemed to echo all around you, off of every corner and brick.
You brought your hands up, they shook as you tried to activate your powers, but they refused to obey. Your chest constricted with fear, and tears threatened to spill from your eyes as it became harder and harder to breathe. You frantically looked around you, your wide eyes darting across the buildings, as you desperately tried to use your powers; nothing was happening. Panic rose in your throat, and you found yourself gasping for a breath.
Suddenly, you were pulled backward, falling face-first onto the hard, cold sidewalk pavement. You scrunched up your face as a sharp pain erupted in your nose, bringing tears to your eyes. Your arms stretched out, your hands grasping at the concrete, your fingers digging painfully into the rough surface as the hand wrapped around your ankle began to drag you along the ground. You struggled against its grip desperately, your body jerked as you twisted around onto your back. Upon seeing the black and orange mask, you felt all the air leave your lungs. Slade. It was as though the world around you vanished, leaving you staring up at the creature from hell.
This had to be some dream - some nightmare - as your wide eyes stared up at the man in horror. His body was replaced with a black fog, or mist, swirling all around his form. In response to your terror, Slade laughed darkly, his deep, smooth voice sending shivers down your spine, "There's no point in fighting."
Tears streamed down your face as you attempted to struggle to free yourself from Slade’s grasp. "Let me go!" You cried out, desperate and scared.
Slade chuckled again as he pulled you even closer. "Hmm," He hummed, the swirling fog around him expanded, slowly beginning to encase you completely, like a thick blanket of night. "Not so brave now, are you?"
As the fog surrounded you, you felt the pressure around your ankle slip away, allowing you to curl up on yourself. You wrapped your arms tightly around your leg, digging your face down into the crevice between your chest and knees; your breathing coming in short bursts as you struggled to not hyperventilate.
Sucking in a deep breath, you jolted forward, your eyes opening. Your wide, teary eyes frantically flickered around the room, finding yourself in your room in the Teen Titans tower, on your bed. You pressed your hand to your chest, feeling your racing heart beneath your sweaty palm. You turned your gaze to the window, your curtains partially closed, the morning sun was just beginning to rise. You let out a puff of air, dropping your tired and wet eyes down to stare at your blankets, your hands curled around the soft fabric in fists.
Just a nightmare, you rationalized. Just a nightmare.
But it wasn't just a nightmare... It was a memory. A terrible, terrible memory. Ever since you had been kidnapped by Slade, over a month ago, you had been having nightmares ever since. Thankfully, not every night plagued you with such horrifying nightmares, but whenever your brain allowed the nightmares to enter your mind and invade, you would wake up shaking. Every nightmare left you feeling drained physically, mentally exhausted, and emotionally scarred. You would wake with a headache, sore muscles, and exhaustion written all across your features.
Usually after such nightmares, you would get up for the day and maybe even get a start on breakfast, but this nightmare was different. It left you wanting to hide under your covers, curl into a ball, and never emerge from them again. But you weren't going to do that. No, if you wanted to live in Jump City, you needed to be able to help people. You needed to be strong. And being weak would get you killed. But, you couldn't be strong all the time. Sometimes, you would need a break - or a breakdown.
And so you let the tears fall, bringing up your legs to wrap your arms around your knees; pressing your face into the crevice between your chest and knees. But, at the sound of your bedroom door opening, you shot your head up, blinking furiously to force any remaining tears away. Beast Boy - or Garfield as he had revealed to you - stood in your doorway. His dark green eyes were wide in concern, a frown on his face before he spoke up.
"Uh, I heard you scream," He looked away sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his head, "Are you okay?"
Ever since you joined the Teen Titans, you and Garfield have grown quite close. Normally it took you a while to get used to people, but Garfield always made you feel comfortable in his presence. When you looked into his warm green eyes, you couldn't help but feel like he truly understood you. You could confide in him, joke around with him, rant about the weirdest things, and he wouldn't judge you - not ever. And he made you laugh... He makes you laugh when you think you wouldn't be able to. He made you forget everything else that was happening in the world, if only for a few minutes.
You quickly brushed the tears from your wet cheeks, clearing your throat as you turned on the switch on your bedside table lamp, "I screamed?" You asked, somewhat embarrassed. You haven’t woken up screaming before, and you’ve been having these nightmares for a little over a month now.
Garfield looked back over at you, and gave you a nod. "You sounded... Kinda terrified," He explained, approaching the side of your bed.
You let out a small sigh, pushing your hair behind your ear as you thought, before speaking, "I- I just had a nightmare." You began to fidget with your soft blanket, "I'm sorry if I woke you up."
Garfield shook his head vigorously as he moved to sit on the edge of your bed, "Dude, you don't have to apologize. I'll admit that I wasn't actually sleeping." He fiddled with his fingers, sounding a bit awkward, "I was up trying to beat Cy's high score on ‘Mega Heroes.’"
From that admission, you felt the corners of your lips turn up, "That's nice... Did you do it?"
Garfield shrugged his shoulders, "Nah, I was close though." He answered, cracking a small smile. Moments of silence passed by, leaving you to twist the soft fabric of your blanket between your fingers as Garfield glanced around your room. Your room was rather bare, compared to his mess of a room, and the others, but you did have a few things here and there. A large bookshelf was filled with all of your books near the window, along with one plant on your bedside table, and your desk and computer in the corner. You didn't have any rugs, or posters on your walls, though the walls were painted your favorite color; he remembered that was one of the first things you requested when you moved into the Tower over a year ago. "So..." Garfield spoke up, almost hesitating, "Do you want to talk about it?"
"Hmm?" You asked looking up from your blanket, before fully comprehending what he was asking, "Oh, uh, about my nightmare?" You asked, trying to sound nonchalant about it, but your voice was betraying you.
Garfield quickly shook his hands, becoming panicked as his eyes widened, "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I know I talk a lot, but I am actually an awesome listener-"
"Gar, it's okay!" You interrupted him, finally cracking a small smile as you reached out and took one of his hands into yours, "I think it is best that I do talk to someone about this..." You began, dropping your hand from his to resume playing with the fabric of your blanket; you dropped your eyes, taking in a deep breath, "My nightmare... It was about Slade."
"Oh," Garfield muttered out, deciding to stay quiet as you continued to speak.
"I've been having nightmares about... About what happened ever since it… Happened." You let out a scoff, shaking your head lightly, "Sometimes, if I'm lucky, I can avoid a nightmare or two, but they just won't go away." You finished, your shoulders slouching forward slightly as you let out a defeated sigh. "I hate how he still has a hold on me." You felt angry tears well up in your eyes. "I am just so tired... Tired of waking up in the middle of the night, only to not be able to get back to sleep, and then worry throughout the day, wondering if I'll have another nightmare." Your voice broke, and you bit down hard on your bottom lip, willing the tears in your eyes to remain hidden. You tightly gripped onto your blanket with both hands, your knuckles turning white as you shut your eyes. "I hate him."
You opened your eyes when you felt a hand resting itself against yours - your clenched fist relaxing at his touch - your eyes locked with Garfield's sympathetic gaze. "I'm sorry I- we didn't get to you sooner."
He, and the team, were the ones that saved you from Slade. He was the one to break you out of the chains that restrained you in his gorilla form, and he was the one to carry your unconscious self back to the Tower. He knew that it wasn't his fault, but he couldn't help but feel that he could've done something to prevent Slade from taking you. He was there when it all happened. He was there, and he couldn’t do anything… He hated Slade. Hated him for taking you. First Terra, and then you… He’d kill him if he saw his face again… He could still remember the fear that filled him when he first heard that you had been taken. Determination, anger, and adrenaline fueled him; he didn’t stop until you were safe in his arms. He felt his chest tighten at the memory of it
Overall, every mention of Slade made his blood boil. Garfield liked you... Like really liked you. And the whole Slade kidnapping you thing made him realize that he cared about you a whole lot more than just a friend should.
Your eyes visibly softened at his statement, your own chest tightening before you gently shook your head, "None of this was anyone's fault, Gar," Your voice became low and somber, "It was all Slade's doing. He got the jump on me." Garfield nodded, though somewhat reluctantly as you spoke up again. "Gar," You paused, giving him a small smile as he met your eyes again, "Thanks, for getting me out of there. For saving me."
A smile slowly formed on Garfield's lips, reaching his eyes as a warm blush spread across his cheeks; he scratched the back of his head nervously, "You're welcome, Y/N."
~~~
Finally, you woke up from a night where nightmares didn't plague your mind. A night of just somewhat peaceful sleep that was occasionally interrupted with a bathroom break, and a midnight snack. You finally had enough sleep to feel actually refreshed and ready for the day.
Entering the main room of the Tower, you headed over to the kitchen. It was quiet, as it usually was at nearly seven in the morning. You couldn't count the number of times you had woken up hours before everyone else. It was actually nice - the quiet. You sighed heavily, staring at the fridge... What were you going to make today? You reached for the fridge's handle but pulled open the cupboard to grab a mug instead.
You poured yourself some coffee before you began to prepare breakfast for you and your friends; deciding on pancakes. You normally made breakfast for them when you woke up so early, and you usually made pancakes; sometimes french toast if you were craving it. The first time you made them all pancakes, you were pretty surprised to receive many compliments from each and every one of them; even from Raven.
It wasn't until you were actually flipping the last of the pancakes, that Garfield entered the room and interrupted your thoughts. "Dude! Are those pancakes!?"
You turned around, glancing over at the green Titan before turning back to the stove; flipping the pancake before it had time to burn. "Yep. And I made sure that I made a lot of extras." You gestured with your spatula to the large plate with about thirty pancakes stacked upon it. “And I made yours vegan. No eggs or milk.” You then gestured to another large pile of pancakes on a separate plate.
"Dude! This is the best day ever!" Garfield quickly sat down on one of the stools in front of the kitchen counter, unable to sit still, eagerly awaiting a taste of your amazing pancakes. Turning around, you slid a couple of fresh, steaming pancakes onto his plate, the corners of your lips turning up at the sight of his excited grin. You began cleaning up the counter as he scarfed the pancakes down - almost comically so - making you chuckle softly.
"So," You began, resting your elbow against the counter, your hand propping your head up; watching as he continued to devour the pancakes, drenching them in syrup. "How's your morning been?" You asked, making Garfield look up at you, pausing mid-chew to answer.
"Pretty good!" He answered with a mouthful of pancake, "Got plans with Cy to play this new game called 'Kangaroo Chaos' today." He swallowed, continuing, "What about you? What are you doing today?" He asked, and for a moment, you thought his green eyes were sparkling from excitement, awaiting your answer.
"I might go to the mall, maybe, but if not, I might just have to watch you and Cy play that game of yours." You shrugged a shoulder, moving to clean up the small mess you made while baking.
He fist-pumped the air, grinning widely, "Sweet! I hope you’ll root for me. I’m totally going to beat him this time."
A few hours later, Garfield sat on the couch with Cyborg, game controllers in hand; Garfield was doing his best to defeat him, but Cyborg was really good at the game. You sat beside the green Titan, reading one of your books, occasionally looking up from the pages to watch the game play out on the TV.
"Boo-yah!" Cyborg exclaimed as he fist-pumped the air, the TV screen flashing a giant 'Winner' over his character, Garfield visibly slouched, pouting at another loss.
As Cyborg did his little victory dance - as if he doesn't win every single round of every single game. You turned to Garfield, placing your book aside, a small smile tugging at your lips, "You did great." You told him kindly. “A lot better than what I could do.”
Garfield only shrugged as he turned to you, a smile plastered on his own face. "Thanks." He then nudged Cyborg in the side once he sat back down, “Rematch?” He asked, with a new-found determination.
“You’re on.” He answered with a grin.
Staring intently at the screen, he reselected his character as Cyborg chose his, and then the match began. You lowered your book, now pretty invested in the game, hoping that Garfield would win at least once. After a few minutes of waiting, however, it became clear that Garfield was having no such luck; he had fallen behind, his health critical, and Cyborg, on the other hand, seemed to have everything under control. Garfield looked defeated as Cyborg gave his character a final punch.
"Awe, man…" Garfield groaned as Cyborg jumped back up to dance, hearing him yell out a 'boo-yah.' "Hey! Cy, I want another rematch!" He exclaimed, and the man in question placed his hands on his hips, tilting his head. “I’ll beat you this time.”
"Again? You're gonna need some stroke of good luck if you wanna beat me again!" Cyborg stated smugly, causing Garfield to huff indignantly.
Crossing his arms, he mumbled to himself, "Good luck? How will I get good-" He trailed off, his words becoming incomprehensible before his eyes widened and his eyebrows shot up. Garfield's eyes sparkled mischievously as he turned towards you; a grin on his face. "Hey, Y/N, how about lending me some of that good luck of yours?" He asked, a playfulness in his tone, poking at his cheek with a finger, wiggling his eyebrows.
You looked up from your book, meeting his gaze with a look of surprise, becoming a bit nervous. His request caught you off guard, but you couldn't help but feel a warmth in your chest at his question. After a moment of contemplation, you spoke, "My good luck? I don't think I got much of that, Gar." You were the one that Slade was able to kidnap after all. What good luck did you have? 'But it wouldn't hurt to try, maybe he’d win,' the voice in the back of your brain replied, and you couldn't help but feel a rush of emotions swirling within you.
You knew that he was probably just joking, just fooling around like he usually did, but it still managed to give you butterflies. And as you watched him become somewhat chest-fallen, his grin dropping, you made your decision. And so, without saying another word, you leaned forward and pressed a tender kiss to his cheek, feeling the heat of his skin beneath your lips. Garfield's eyes widened in surprise, his downhearted demeanor momentarily replaced by a look of astonishment. The room fell silent, as you pulled back to look at Garfield who was staring right at you with his big, green eyes; a bright red tint spreading across his cheeks. You smiled softly as you then reached up to gently shut his unhinged jaw before pulling away slightly, your own cheeks flushed.
The eye contact - the tension between you two - quickly dissipated as Cyborg loudly clapped his hands together, causing both of you to turn your heads to see him standing in front of you, his robotic arms crossing. "Ready for that rematch?" He smirked as you ducked your head back into your awaiting book, biting your bottom lip to hide your growing smile.
"Heck yeah!" Garfield cheered, the blush still evident on his cheeks, before grabbing his controller and starting up another match. And it wasn't long until he let out a triumphant yell, fist-pumping the air. "Yes! I won!" He cheered, jumping up from the couch with a bright smile on his face. You couldn’t help but smile at his victory as he continued to celebrate before he suddenly reached out and grabbed your hand, pulling you up from the couch and right into a bone-crushing victory hug. "We did it! We did it!" He chanted as you ignored the butterflies fluttering in your stomach, allowing yourself to enjoy the moment.
Robin leaned against the kitchen counter, his arms crossed, and a knowing grin on his face. Starfire floated softly beside him, her hands clasped together with a joyful smile on her own face as they both watched the moment between you and Beast Boy unfold before them. Slowly, Raven floated over to the both of them, pushing her dark blue cloak aside to reveal her awaiting palm.
"I won. Hand it over," She spoke, sounding a bit smug as Robin slapped a twenty-dollar bill in her hand, making her grin.
~~~
You found yourself in darkness, this empty abyss that sent shivers down your spine. You tried to move, but you felt as if you were glued to the ground, your hands and your feet were chained. You struggled, pulling and twisting your body in every direction to no avail. There was nothing you could do. Your heart rate sped up as you pulled at your chains, only for a burst of dark, malicious laughter to echo throughout the emptiness around you.
"Once again, I have got you within my grasp." Above you, a light flickered on, giving you some light, before one by one, light flooded the once abyss. You seemed to have found yourself in some sort of abandoned warehouse. And he stood - Slade - hand clasped behind his back, standing tall as he stared right at you. "How pathetic," He tilted his head to the side, "You're not as powerful as you think you are, child."
"I'm not a child," You growled, narrowing your eyes at the man, tugging on the chains holding your hands together.
Slade raised his hand, showing off a small controller, "You and your friends sure act like children." He remarked dryly, pressing a button on the controller, revealing you one singular cage; hanging, slightly swinging in the air. “Especially this one.”
Your eyes widened, seeing Garfield in the cage, he was trying to shapeshift, but it wasn't working, "No! Let him go!" You begged, thrashing violently, but Slade merely chuckled.
"No," He began, stalking closer to Garfield in his hanging cage, "I don't think I will."
You could hear your heartbeat racing and drumming loudly in your ears as you watched him approach Garfield. His movements were slow and calculated - as if he were stalking prey. You quickly shut your eyes, squeezing them shut, trying your hardest to activate your powers, but once more, you felt nothing but a dull ache in your body. You felt a rush of pain and hopelessness fill you as you heard Garfield's screams echoing throughout the empty building, followed by silence. No matter how much you cried, pleading with Slade to stop or to let him go, he just laughed and laughed, and laughed-
You jolted up in your bed, breathing heavily as your eyes darted around your bedroom frantically, scanning it for any signs of danger. Your hands shook as you raised them, feeling the familiar tingle of your powers coursing through you; you dropped them, letting out a deep breath through your mouth. You blinked the tears from your lashes, before brushing them off of your cheeks. You rubbed your cheeks, trying to calm yourself as you looked out your bedroom window - past the curtains - the sun wasn't even in the sky.
Suddenly, your bedroom door opened, and you quickly went into defense mode. Your hands raised, but as quickly as they went into the air, they dropped into your lap once you saw who was at the door. Garfield stood, his hand pressed against the doorway; deja vu came over you in waves - along with tears. You tried to hold back the tears, but a sense of relief and sadness overwhelmed you all at once. You bit down on your bottom lip hard, copper burning your taste buds as you stared down at your lap; meanwhile, Garfield entered the room, your door sliding shut.
"Another nightmare?" He asked, his voice soft as he took a seat on the bed.
"Yeah," You muttered, clearing your throat, "Another nightmare." You repeated his words, looking up at him finally.
Garfield nodded, before - again - seeming slightly hesitant before speaking, "You screamed again… For me."
Your eyes widened, and you blinked twice, "I- I… Screamed for you?" You asked, and he nodded.
"Yeah," He rubbed the back of his neck. Your scream three nights ago had instantly woken him up, sending him running towards your room without hesitation - which didn't take long, since your room was right next to Raven's, which was beside his. How you didn't wake Raven up, he would never know. But tonight, when he heard you scream for him, the concern that he felt, the fear, the dread he felt... He ran faster than he ever thought possible. "What happened?" He then asked, his brows furrowed.
He sat in front of you as you stared at him, opening your mouth to respond, but closing it soon afterwards. You glanced down at your hands, wringing your fingers together anxiously, before you gave a shaky exhale, looking back up at him, "It was Slade again," You began, scoffing lightly, "Obviously because that's all my dreams consist of now… And I was having such a good day too…" You tried to make a joke of it, but Garfield simply stared at you, waiting patiently for you to continue. "He captured me, and... And you." You added quietly, looking away from him again, your fingers picking at the loose threads of the edge of the blanket, "And he hurt you." You swallowed thickly, tears stinging your eyes at the memories that flashed across your mind. "It felt so… So real..." You whispered, sniffling.
"I'm here," Garfield leaned forward, taking your free hand in his, "I'm right here." You closed your eyes briefly as you felt a gentle squeeze from Garfield's hand, allowing your emotions to overflow and wash over you. "It was just a nightmare. I know me saying that isn't going to make them disappear completely, but I want to be there for you whenever you need me - you don't have to do this alone. I promise you that." His voice was soft yet determined as you opened your eyes, gazing straight into his emerald eyes. "Whatever you need, Y/N, I'll be there for you."
His words made your heart flutter, as a small smile graced your features, causing Garfield's lips to curve upwards in response, causing you to giggle softly before wiping your eyes with the sleeve of your pajama shirt. "Whatever I need?" You asked and Garfield gave you a nod, still grinning. "Can I have a hug?" You asked, and Garfield immediately responded by opening his arms out wide for you.
"I'm always down for a good hug." He said happily, wrapping his arms around you tightly as you returned the embrace, resting your chin atop of his shoulder and shutting your eyes. You breathed in deeply, smelling the familiar scent of pine trees and earth, that just was so uniquely him. "Anything for you, Y/N," He mumbled, and you tightened your grip on him just a little; your face burning, your stomach erupted into butterflies; you felt so safe in his arms.
The two of you stayed like that for a few moments until Garfield reluctantly released you from his embrace, and you both became very aware of how close your faces were to each other. You averted your gaze, feeling your face heat up even more, and you cleared your throat; remembering the good luck kiss you gave him hours ago. Garfield continued to gaze at you, his eyes softening as you bit your bottom lip. He rubbed his warm cheek with a hand, the same cheek that you had kissed, "So, you'd probably want to get back to bed." He then gestured to the door with a jab of his thumb, "I should get going."
At the sudden feeling of your hand grabbing his, Garfield paused mid-step, looking back over at you. You couldn't quite meet his gaze, instead choosing to stare at the wall, "Could you stay?" You asked, "Just tonight."
Garfield, though slightly taken aback, gave you a grin and a nod, "Of course! Sleepover!" He exclaimed before suddenly shifting into a large green lion. You blinked in surprise, before bursting into giggles as he leaped up onto your bed. “I’d be lion if I said I didn’t love sleepovers.”
"You're ridiculous, Gar." You sighed, watching as he stretched out, and let out a large yawn, before plopping down and rolling on his side - which was overall very adorable in your eyes, just an oversized, green kitten. You couldn't help but laugh a bit as you flopped onto your bed beside him, your head landing on one of your pillows.
He let out a small laugh, "You love me." He teased you, his lion tail swishing back and forth.
Your smile softened - forgetting about Slade and your nightmares completely. "Don't remind me," You playfully rolled your eyes, before yawning yourself. Lifting his large, green paw, you snuggled right into the fur of his chest, your smile widening when the fur tickled your nose. "Thank you, Gar," You muttered, before shutting your eyes. "Goodnight."
Garfield sighed in contentment, letting out one more yawn before nuzzling against the top of your head affectionately with his wet nose, "Goodnight, Y/N."

A little danger, pt. 15
A little danger - Series Masterlist
Pairing: Sky of Eraklyon x mind!fairy
Warnings: angst, fluff, swearing, violence, sexual innuendos, descriptions of blood/wounds/death
———— PART 15 ————
Drawing in a shaky breath, Y/N swipes under her nose with her index finger. She frowns upon the sight of blood and the purple glow it emits.
“Keep going,” Saul encourages, his voice a steady anchor.
Her lips tremble as she tries to form words, the effort of speaking through the agony nearly unbearable. “It feels like my insides are being ripped out of me,” Y/N exclaims, her voice strained and filled with anguish.
“Maybe she could take a break,” Sky pleads, itching to stop the process himself.
“No,” Saul’s voice is firm, his resolve unwavering. “If we’re to protect Bloom, she has to erase the truth from everyone’s minds. Ours included. Otherwise, all of this was for nothing,” Saul pauses, a shadow of regret crossing his features. “And I still remember what happened perfectly.”
Violently trembling, Y/N’s tears blur her vision, though they are not tears but blood, a crimson hue that glows eerie purple. The blood’s strange luminescence casts a haunting glow around her. The warmth she emitted that had him awestruck is gone, it’s terrifying for Sky to look at her now. She sways on unsteady legs, her breath turning to ragged gasps torn from her lungs as she fights to maintain her focus.
“That’s enough,” Sky decides, his gaze hardening. He rushes to Y/N’s side, “Stop this!”
Noticing her left eye twitch, Sky realizes she’s actively fighting to keep her focus despite the distraction he provided. She won’t stop. Not until she does what Saul asked, even if it kills her. Not unless Sky makes her stop.
“Please,” his lips part in a plea as he cups her cheeks. Sky swallows thickly as he realizes she’s bleeding from her ears as well, soaking his hands.
“Keep going,” Saul speaks again sharply.
“It will kill her,” Sky says through gritted teeth, desperation creeping into his voice.
Stella jumps to her feet, her eyebrows furrowed. “Maybe Sky’s right. She’s not looking well.”
“She can do this,” Saul states plainly.
Bloom shakes her head, “She shouldn’t be risking her life over me. I can handle whatever punishment I receive.”
“Or we can just trust she can recognize her limits when she reaches them?” Terra suggests, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Musa’s eyes widen, “She’s going to die.”
Panicked, Sky shakes her body, his heart pounding with fear of losing her to the very power that always captivated him. He’s lied to her about it before – Sky loves her power as much as he fears it for this very reason. The amount of magic concentrated in her is too much for any fairy to handle, the danger looms over them like a dark cloud. If he stands by as it claims her, he knows he will never forgive himself. Nor Saul.
“Don’t do this,” Saul warns Sky who doesn’t heed his words.
In a desperate attempt to steer her focus away from the mission, Sky ignores the tiny voice in his head warning him to be cautious. When it’s Y/N, Sky is willing to toss all caution out the window.
“Don’t kill me for this,” he cracks a smile before planting his lips onto hers, hard. It’s like a collision of pure love and fear, passion and despair. He pours all the longing buried inside him, all the hopes he’s ever carried for their future, all of himself into this kiss, hoping it’s enough to break through to her. His hands tremble as they cup her face, his touch gentle yet urgent, as if he’s trying to anchor her to reality.
As their lips move together, a surge of electricity courses through him, a spark of magic that he can't quite explain. It's as if their connection ignites something within him, something primal and raw. And in that moment, he feels as if he's on the brink of losing himself, of being consumed by the intensity of their bond.
But then, something shifts. A jolt of energy passes between them, and Sky feels a sudden emptiness wash over him, as if a part of him has been ripped away. It's a sensation unlike anything he's ever experienced, a hollow ache that cuts deep into his soul.
And then, just as quickly as it came, it's gone. Sky blinks in confusion, his mind reeling as he tries to make sense of what just happened. But before he can grasp it fully, Y/N pulls away, her expression one of shock and horror.
"What... what did I just do?" she whispers, her voice trembling with disbelief. And then, realization dawns on her face, and she looks at him with wide eyes filled with anguish.
"I'm so sorry," she says, her voice choked with tears, her hands tremble as she reaches out to him. "I didn't mean to... I didn't want to..."
But Sky doesn't hear her words. He's lost in a haze, his mind swirling with memories that no longer belong to him, disappearing one by one, then hundreds and thousands at a time until he’s left a blank page, a void where his memories once resided.
“What just happened?” Stella stares at the two, confused as Sky seems to be.
Saul takes a few steps toward them. “What did you do,” Saul’s voice is oddly calm, but his eyes betray his worry.
“Sky?” Y/N asks shakily, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Huh?” Sky’s response is distant, his gaze vacant. He tilts his head ever so slightly to the left. There’s nothing in his eyes, no fear or hatred or anger….and no love. “You have something,” he gestures to her face. “Like all over.”
Covering her mouth in shock, Y/N shakes her head vehemently. “I can, I can fix this.”
“Fix what?” Saul raises his voice ever so slightly and Sky flinches at the sudden sound, though his expression remains blank.
“Why so loud, dude? You shouldn’t be yelling at her,” Sky states, his words lacking their usual warmth and familiarity as he takes a protective stance before Y/N.
“Dude?” Saul repeats in confusion, his concern deepening.
“I think I erased his memories,” Y/N confesses. “Why the fuck was he kissing me? Why would you allow him to even touch me when I was using all that power to fuck with other people’s minds?!”
“Do you really think any of us could stop Sky once he set his mind on something? Especially when you’re concerned?” Bloom sighs. “You can fix it, though?”
“I think so?” Y/N furrows her brow, her minds racing with thoughts of how to undo the damage. “I never wiped someone’s memories before.”
“Great,” Aisha mutters. “Well, I don’t think we have time to fix Sky right now. We need everyone on campus to forget, remember?”
“I don’t care,” Y/N snaps at her in frustration. “I’ve done what I could, Sky’s priority.”
“You guys really like the sky,” Sky chuckles, his voice light and carefree.
Stella tilts her head, considering. “At least he seems happy and unburdened.”
“He doesn’t even know his name,” Y/N deadpans, her heart heavy.
“We all knew you could potentially lobotomize us,” Stella shrugs. “Maybe the rest of the campus is like this too.”
“NOT HELPING,” Terra exclaims.
“Fix him,” Saul states firmly, his tone ending their argument. “Now.”
“I need time,” Y/N insists. “I could potentially make it worse!”
Pursing his lips, Saul nods. “I guess I’ll have to do what we wanted to avoid.” Sighing, he looks to Bloom. “You’ll have to wear these.”
Opening a box, he presents her with metal bracelets.
“Those look nice,” Sky goes to touch them only to get slapped over his hand by Stella.
“What are those?” Y/N asks.
“Torture devices to stop Bloom from using her magic,” Stella answers.
“You’ve had a way to stop a fairy from using her magic all this time and this is the first I hear of it?” Y/N raises her brows. “Wow.” It could have saved her so much grief. She could have used them outside of class to stop hurting everyone around her. So many people could have been protected from her outburst and Saul never once offered these bracelets to her.
“These are the terms to keep you out of confinement until they reach a decision. Bavani will convene a tribunal to determine the consequences and Queen Luna will preside over it.”
“Lovely,” Stella rolls her eyes.
Placing the bracelets on Bloom, they tighten around her forearms as if they’re embedding themselves into her skin. It looks painful, but Bloom doesn’t make a single sound.
Instinctively, Y/N takes Sky’s hand who pulls away instantly. He doesn’t even glance at her before turning to the TV. Feeling an explosion of pain spread in her chest, Y/N can’t help as tears well up in her eyes.
“Someone’s speaking,” Sky points out.
Queen Luna is making an address.
“Citizens of Solaria, I have tragic news. Rosalind Hale, headmistress of Alfea, is dead. It is a grave loss not only for the students of Alfea but for the entire realm. Rosalind was one of the bravest fairies the Otherworld has ever seen. Respected by her peers. Feared by her enemies. But fear will not dictate how we respond. There is a guilty party, and they will be brought to justice. Blood Witches. Their hatred of our kind is well known. But a heinous act such as this is unprecedented, carried out by their leader, Sebastian Valtor. Every Blood Witch following him is considered an enemy of the Crown. We will use the full weight of our military against them. And make no mistake... this is an act of war.”
“She didn’t mention Bloom,” Aisha points out.
“Maybe the tribunal will be just to get her facts straight?” Terra states.
“I know my mother. She won’t pass on this.”
Nodding, Musa huffs. “So, until all this is resolved, we are expected to go to class like everything is normal?”
“Nothing’s normal,” Y/N interjects as her eyes rest on Sky.
“I’ll take him to my place for the night,” Saul states. “I can explains some basics.”
“No.”
“He doesn’t know you,” Saul tries to placate Y/N, setting a purple spark alight in her eyes for a moment.
“I need to try and fix him and I can’t do that if he’s not with me. Besides, he doesn’t know you either.”
“I don’t wanna go with either of you,” Sky interjects. “You’re pushy and I’d rather not deal with that. And the soldier dude is too serious.”
“Well tough luck,” Y/N grumbles. “Because you will be coming with me or I will do a better job lobotomizing you this time around!”
Stella giggles nervously, “Maybe we should take things easy, okay?”
“You,” Sky smirks. “I like you. You can take me anywhere you want,” he winks.
Glancing at Y/N, Stella pales. “I did not expect that!”
Exhaling loudly, Y/N grimaces. “If I don’t manage to fix him, I will kill him.”
“And you wonder why I don’t want to come with you,” Sky mutters under his breath.
Rolling her eyes at Sky, she turns to Saul. “I’m not done with you either.”
“I have plenty to say to you too,” Saul narrows his eyes at her.
Pursing her lips, she returns the gesture. “Table it for now?”
“Agree,” Saul lifts his chin and it takes everything in Y/N not to laugh.
Shaking hands on it, Y/N sighs before turning to Sky. “Can I trust you not to run and come willingly or will I have to use force?”
Raising his eyebrows, he looks to Stella again. “You’re really going to miss out on this opportunity?”
Lifting her hands up in mock surrender, Stella mouths a ‘sorry’ to Y/N before leaving the two.
“Unbelievable,” Sky grumbles in annoyance.
“I was thinking the same,” Y/N exclaims in disbelief. Grabbing him by the strings of his hoodie, she drags him after her in anger. Sure, she’s the one to blame for erasing his memories, but is he seriously flirting with his ex in front of her?
“Hold up!” Musa runs after her, holding a box of wet wipes. “You might wanna wipe the blood first,” she gestures to her face.
“It’s a short walk to my room and I’m planning to shower immediately.”
Pressing her lips in a thin line, Musa’s eyes widen. “I’d make sure no one catches you in the light then. It looks pretty bad.”
“Will do,” Y/N waves her off. Continuing on her way back, her hands clutch to the strings tightly. He’s not fighting her on it, but knowing Sky didn’t want to come with her hurts. It’s stupid, but part of her expected it to be like in the books; memory loss trope always has them feeling drawn to each other even if their history is gone. They are meant to be into each other, to want to fall in love again, not flirt with their royal ex girlfriend.
“I’m hungry,” Sky complains.
“Okay.”
“I’m starving, like actually dying.”
Pausing, she turns around only to see him flinch at the sight of her. Is he seriously that repulsed by her? Biting her lower lip, she swallows the tears. He will not see her break. She will fix this and then she’s going to be mad at him for not falling head over heels for her on first sight.
“I have food in my room.”
“Is it pizza?” He asks, seemingly excited.
“You don’t remember your name or me, but you remember pizza?”
He shrugs. “Well, I’m hungry not horny. If I was horny, maybe I’d remember you Strange girl.”
Licking her lips, she closes her eyes. “No memory Sky is a dick. Got it.”
Pulling on the strings harder, Y/N walks ahead and Sky groans. “I wouldn’t have to be a dick if you let me leave. I mean, why do you even care?”
“Why ask if you don’t want to know the answer?”
Chuckling, Sky moves to her side. “Ooooh, do I detect some anger in your voice?” Biting his lower lip, Sky smiles. “I think I like the angry side of you more, Strange girl.”
Opening the door, Y/N grips the fabric of his hoodie with all her might and pushes him inside her room, locking the door with her magic to ensure he can’t leave. She does the same to the windows, securing every exit point.
“Have the pizza,” she points to the box on the desk. “I need a shower.”
“What’s stopping me from leaving?” Sky asks timidly.
Leaning on the door frame, she shrugs meekly. Maybe it’s the inkling of fear in his beautiful eyes that grips her heart or it’s the nerves in his tone as he asks, but she softens her voice. “Because I care about you and not even an hour ago, you really cared about me. I guess I’m hoping that sort of a thing doesn’t get lost along with memories because that affects only the head and not the heart. I can’t take away the memories your heart has of all the ways you feel about me.”
“Felt,” he corrects her and it’s like a gut punch.
Averting her gaze to the floor, she crosses her arms over her chest. Her forehead wrinkles as her eyebrows furrow and her eyes struggle to keep the tears at bay.
“Eat your pizza, Sky,” she replies softly with a light tremor in her voice. Disappearing behind the door, she covers her mouth to stop herself from sobbing openly. It’s not his fault he doesn’t remember her. Isn’t this what she wanted? For Sky to forget all about her? She tried so hard to push him away. If she wanted, this could be the answer to her wishes.
Shaking her head, she leans on her sink. Looking at herself in the mirror, she gasps loudly enough to warrant a light knock on the door.
“Uhhh, not that it’s any of my business, but is everything okay in there?”
Clearing her throat, she nods. “Yeah. All good.”
Her face is caked in blood, starting from marks running down her eyes, from her nose down her chin, in fact only a part of her forehead is clear. There are bloody tracks from her ears too. No wonder Sky flinched at the mere sight of her. She looks like a horror movie character.
In the dimly lit bathroom, the sound of running water fills the air as Y/N stands beneath the steaming shower, letting the warm water ease the icy chill that has seeped into her heart again. She watches as the ruby red blood swirls down the drain, disappearing into nothingness as did Sky’s feelings for her. As she scrubs vigorously at her skin, trying to rid herself of the remnants of what’s happened, her mind is consumed by thoughts of Sky. He’s a stranger now, it’s evident in the blank expression on his face and the emptiness in the eyes that held so much love for her. All they mirror now is the loss she feels inside.
Sky doesn’t remember her anymore. There’s no love left in him, the bond the shared is severed by a knife she wielded herself, unaware it would go straight into her heart and twist with every beat. Y/N has experienced immense pain in her life, lost many dear to her heart, but this? It threatens to engulf her entirely. She was careless and this is the result. Sky was always afraid of her doing something similar to this, but she can’t imagine even he would have expected the magnitude of what’s happened this evening.
Mother. Farah. Sky.
She lost them all.
But she might be able to save Sky. She will lose him inevitably even if she brings his memories back. This is unforgivable, she knows that. Perhaps if she were to keep Sky as he is, she’d get him to love her again. Maybe it can still be like in the romance books and they could be happy.
No.
It wouldn’t be fair to him.
Sky deserves to know who he is and how he’s become that way. Most of all, he deserves to be able to make his choices knowing all the facts. If she has to lose him in the process, then so be it. That will be her punishment, one too easy for the severity of the crime. It will kill her, but that’s what she deserves.
And in that moment, a flicker of determination opens room for a glimmer of hope deep within her. She won’t give up on Sky, not now, not ever. He was always chasing after her, unable to give up even when she didn’t deserve him. This time it’s her turn to do the chasing. Even if he doesn’t make it easy on her. When he went after her, Sky at least knew she cares for him. This is a different story.
With renewed resolve, Y/N shuts off the water and steps out of the shower, wrapping herself in a towel. Though the pain lingers, she knows she can't let it consume her. She'll find a way to bring Sky back to her, no matter what it takes. For their love is stronger than any obstacle, and she refuses to let it slip away into the darkness.
Realizing she didn’t bring a change of clothes, her heart jumps at the thought of having to go out in front of Sky with nothing but a towel wrapped around her. He’ll think she’s nymphomaniac and it will make it all worse. Holding her breath, she opens the door only to find Sky laying on his back on her bed, eyes closed and his hands on his stomach.
“I didn’t wanna touch anything since I got all this dried blood on my hands,” Sky states as he looks at her. His eyes widen and he sits up immediately. “Uhh, I, uh, what are you? What are you doing?”
Raising her eyebrows, she smirks. “Little nervous, are we?”
“Little naked, are we?”
Holding onto the towel, she shrugs. “You can wash your hands in the bathroom. There’s warm water if you want to take a shower.”
Gulping, he averts his gaze to his hands. “I, uh, don’t really have spare clothes laying around.”
“You do,” Y/N remarks. “I have a few pairs of your boxer briefs, a few shirts and I’m fairly certain you’ve left half your hoodie collection in my closet.”
Staring at her with mouth open, Sky inhales sharply. “Sorry, what do you mean?”
“If you want a shower, don’t worry about clothes,” Y/N explains as she grabs some of it and tosses it to the bed. Realizing she threw her fave hoodie he’s left, she runs toward the bed, “Oh, sorry, that one I’ll keep actually.” Grinning, she throws it over a chair and grabs another. Walking back to the bed, she slips. Falling on her left hip with a grunt, she nearly screams as she feels warm hands on her bare skin moments after impact.
“I’m not looking!” Sky exclaims as he helps her back on her feet, her towel remaining on the floor. “I’m not a creep, I swear!”
She couldn’t help the laugh bursting out of her when she notices the pink tint on his cheeks. He’s staring at the ceiling, but his hands haven’t left her waist. Biting her lower lip, she reaches for his face, cupping his cheeks.
“I don’t think you’re a creep.”
Daring to look her in the eyes, Sky swallows thickly. “I didn’t even think, I just rushed to help you. I’m sorry if it made you uncomfortable.”
Shaking her head fondly, she smiles. “I’ve never felt more comfortable than in your arms. And I know it sounds scary and overwhelming, but it’s the truth.”
With those words, he’s unable to tear his gaze away from her. She stands there, her damp hair cascading in loose waves down her back, brushing his hands on her waist, her eyes reflecting so many emotions he can’t quite decipher. There’s a resilience, a strength in her that captivates him. Looking at her now, with all the blood washed away, Sky can’t help the undeniable sense of awe. She’s not just pretty, she’s stunning, breathtakingly so. Every feature is perfectly crafted, from the curve of her lips to the sparkle in her eyes. In this moment, she’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen in his life and it takes his breath away. And that? That’s what ignites a nagging sense of fear that grips his heart. She’s a stranger to him, someone he barely knows, yet there’s a connection between them that he can’t ignore. She told him he cared for her, that she cares for him, but he doesn’t feel that. What if he never does? What if she expects him to be the guy she thinks she knows and he can’t live up to that? Whoever he was to her, whoever he was in that life, that part of him is gone.
Letting his hands fall to his sides, Sky turns away. “The towel’s right next to you.”
He listens to the way she inhales, as if he’s already disappointed her. Part of him wishes he could remember, to know all he’s ever known about her, to understand why he was set aflame just by touching her bare skin, but that’s unattainable right now.
A shower isn’t.
Taking the clothes she laid out on the bed, Sky passes by her without so much as a glance. Closing the door, he finally lets out a breath he’s been keeping inside. There’s a goddess outside those doors and she looks at him like he’s all she’s ever wanted. So why did he run?
Out of the shower and dressed, Sky truly hoped she fell asleep. Y/N, that’s how he heard them call her. He likes the way her name sounds in his head, but he’s certain it sounds better rolling off his tongue.
Shaking the thought out of his mind, he peaks inside only to find her in the hoodie she took back earlier. Y/N’s sat on her bed, back against the frame. She looks up, a small smile on her lips as their eyes meet.
“Feel better?”
“I, uh, really don’t know what to say,” he manages a small smile.
“I can tell.”
“You have a photo of me on your vanity.”
“I do,” she glances at it for a moment. She took that photo during his training, right as he realized she was there, watching him. That grin of his is immortalized in her mind and in that photo.
“Okay. So we were close. I can accept that.”
Sighing, she nods. “Sky of Eraklyon. That’s your name. You’re the heir to Eraklyon…should we ever manage to free it.”
Frowning, he clicks his tongue. “That’s what you open with?”
“I don’t know what to say, either.”
Rubbing his forehead, he sits at the foot of the bed. “Don’t treat me differently, okay? I might not have memories I used to, but I’m still me”, he looks down to his hands folded in his lap.
“If I granted that wish, we’d sorta both be naked and –“
Chuckling, Sky glances at her sheepishly. “Maybe treat me a little bit differently. Like when we first met.”
She licks her lips before smiling. “We knew each other as kids. Then we were separated for a long time. When we met again, we didn’t talk for years.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah. The first time we talked again, you got thrown into a wall.”
“What did I do to deserve it?”
Y/N pulls her knees up to her chest. “Nothing. You were being kind and I…don’t always have a lid on my magic.”
“So, you were the dick back then?”
Chuckling, she nods. “You could say that.” When she looks at him, her gaze is tender. There’s a softness in her eyes as she looks at him, like she sees him, truly sees him.
“Stop that,” Sky turns away from her.
“What?”
“Stop looking at me like I’m yours, because I’m not!”
Swallowing thickly, she stares at him in shock. Nauseous and lightheaded, she feels as if her heart is breaking. You can die of a broken heart, it’s a scientifically proven fact. She can feel the ache deep behind her ribs, the heart that’s beating a desperate rhythm: love me, remember me.
“I don’t know how to look at you differently,” she gives him a tight lipped smile, swallowing tears. She knows she shouldn’t take it personally, but his words almost feel venomous.
Seeing the unshed tears in her eyes, Sky sighs. Running a hand through his wet hair, he leans his elbows on his thighs. “I did say you shouldn’t bring me with you.”
“Yeah. The girl you wanted to go with is your ex girlfriend and my…well, she’s like my best friend.”
“Oh,” he looks at her again, noticing the tears have made tracks on her cheeks, but no new ones are awaiting their journey. “So, that’s why you were so pissy. Even if I don’t remember you, cheating isn’t something I’d want to do.”
“Well…we are technically just friends right now. We broke up pretty recently.” Wiping under her eyes, she huffs. “It was stupid. Our breakup, I mean.”
“Who ended things?”
“I did,” she admits. “I was so good at pushing people away and running from everyone until they give up the chase, but you,” she smiles softly. “You never give up on me. The reason you were with me tonight, why this happened to you, it’s all a result of your unwillingness to walk away.”
Listening intently, Sky moves up to sit beside her. “I think you lied to me then. It doesn’t sound like I cared about you,” Sky leans his head on the headboard, his eyes chained to hers, taking in every little change in her expression to heart. He didn’t want to make her cry again. “Did I love you?”
Y/N’s lips part with his question. She’s taken aback, hopeful and he knows he’s made a mistake. He should have worded it better instead of giving her reason to hope he feels that way now.
“Y-yes,” she whispers. Her hand brushes his out of habit. “Sorry,” she tries to pull away, but he takes her hand in his, seemingly curious. His fingers run across her palm, warm against her skin.
“Why does touching you make me feel like I’m right where I’m meant to be, yet your presence here makes me want to scream for you to leave?” Sky speaks softly, quietly, as if she isn’t meant to hear him, but she does and it hurts. It’s just the very tip of the emotions of a very deep iceberg.
“What about my presence unnerves you the most?”
“The expectations in your eyes. You look at me and see someone you love and I’m not him anymore. I’m worried I’ll never be him again and I’ll lose something that’s obviously been very important to me.” He traces her wrist with his thumb, wetting his lips. “It’s the pain in your eyes, like I stole something you can’t get back.” Gnawing at the inside of his cheek, he releases her hand. “What if those memories are gone forever and I don’t end up falling in love with you again?”
Closing her eyes, she inhales deeply. “I don’t know.”
When she turns to look at him, Sky expected tears in her eyes, but he’s breathless as he’s met with a violet hue instead.
“What –“
“I’m not going to give up on you.”
Backing away, Sky shakes his head. “What’s that supposed to mean? Why did your eyes change?”
“I’m a mind fairy and I’m the reason you lost your memories. I have to try to bring them back,” she taps on the mattress. “Don’t you want to at least try and remember?”
“I do, but what if you lose control and turn me back to a baby or something.”
Holding her hand out for him to take, she shrugs. “Won’t know until we try.”
“That’s reassuring,” he grimaces.
“Are you in or out?”
Shaking his head, he sighs. “You’re kinda crazy, Strange girl.”
Chuckling dryly, she nods. “It’s precisely why you love me.”
“Okay,” he sits back down, holding her hand tightly in his. “Ruin me for good.”

Children's books:

(Mora um anjo no meu nariz; An Angel Lives in My Nose)
A boy has a mom who’s an elephant who lives in a mall. (Minha mãe, a elefanta; My Mother, the Elephant)

A boy lives in a town where no one can leave, because any road that is built is eaten by the mountains surrounding the town. Then one day the town’s official Crazy Person™ comes up with an idea of how the boy can leave: they’ll hatch an airplane egg. (Ovo de avião; Airplane Egg)
A girl who was found seemingly abandoned in a cave as a baby wonders about who her biological family was. She finds out that they were witches fleeing persecution in Europe and her senile grandma forgot where she hid the cocoon where the girl was (which is how witch babies are made) was, which is why the cocoon was left in a cave. (O livro mágico da bruxinha Nicolau; The Magic Book of the Little Witch Nicolau)
A group of kids in the pediatric unit of a hospital are visited every night by a tiny circus floating on a cloud. One night there’s a contest for the bravest person in the world and their nurse shows up in the tiny circus and claims “her” kids are the bravest and they win the contest. A boy who has to wear an eyepatch to correct his lazy eye is actually secretly a pirate and the eyepatch gives him x-ray vision. (Caolho, o pirata; Lazy Eye, the Pirate)
A movie script:
